  • Gmail 4.0 App for iOS Released With Interactive Notifications & iOS 8 Share Support

Google has launched an updated version of its Gmail application into the iOS App Store on Thursday that the tech and Web services company is dubbing version 4.0.

Gmail 4.0 brings with it further support for iOS 8's new features. The application was updated back in October with official iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus retina HD display support, but the new features adopted on Thursday extend beyond the hardware and right into the software.

Included is support for iOS 8's new interactive notifications, which allows the user to perform actions right from the notification banner of a push notification from the Gmail application, such as archiving and replying to E-mail messages. Additionally, support for iOS 8's share extensions has been implemented, which means that you can now attach photos and documents directly to Gmail from your favorite applications without needing to be in the Gmail application.

Gmail 4.0 also touts a new attachment viewer, which allows you to open your incoming messages in Gmail with any application installed on your iOS device that supports that file type.

Existing users of Gmail will find this update waiting for them under the Updates tab in the App Store application; those with automatic updates enabled will have the update installed for them automatically upon connecting to an active Internet connection. Alternatively, you can also download the latest version of Gmail for free from this App Store link.

Does anyone know if this update will work with "Push for Gmail"?

You should be able to reply right in the notification not open the app to reply.
