  • Apple Eroded Samsung's Smartphone Empire Last Year

Despite all the hype surrounding Samsung at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain this week, it can't obscure the fact that Samsung is on a downward trend in the smartphone space.

According to new data from Gartner, which largely corroborates similar data uncovered by other research giants in recent months, in the fourth quarter of 2014 Samsung lost its No. 1 position to Apple in the global smartphone market.

"Worldwide sales of smartphones to end users had a record fourth quarter of 2014 with an increase of 29.9 percent from the fourth quarter of 2013 to reach 367.5 million units," according to Gartner.

The data shows that Samsung shed its top spot to Apple in the global smartphone market last quarter. Samsung had been in the top spot since 2011.

"Samsung's performance in the smartphone market deteriorated further in the fourth quarter of 2014, when it lost nearly 10 percentage points in market share," said Anshul Gupta, principal research analyst at Gartner. "Samsung continues to struggle to control its falling smartphone share, which was at its highest in the third quarter of 2013. This downward trend shows that Samsung's share of profitable premium smartphone users has come under significant pressure."

No articles on the new Samsung lineup? First pic I saw was from the bottom edge of the S6. Looks incredibly similar to an iPhone 6. Apparently they made the back out of gorilla glass. I guess they didn't learn all the lessons from the iPhone 4 series, but they certainly seem to be copying hardcore now.
It does however look like a much higher quality phone now

Edit: I take back the first statement. I didn't scroll down far enough!

Yep, now they have to try to fool people to think they're buying an iPhone in order to get sales.

Samsung's main competition is from other phones now. Xiomi in china, One plus all over the world. HTC and LG are have much better harware than any of samsung's flagship products. Currently only Note4 is a good product from samsung stable.
