  • Google Releases New YouTube Kids App for iOS With Main Focus on Children

Google has released it's new YouTube Kids application for the iOS and Android platforms on Monday with a sole focus on children rather than those of older ages that are mature enough for some of the content on the regular version of YouTube. Notably, the decision to release the application on the iOS platform is contrary to what we learned just three days ago.

Google Kids is an age-appropriate version of YouTube that gives parents more control over how the viewer (your child, someone else's child, or some other youngling you've become responsible for) views content on YouTube.

Google notes that YouTube kids does away with the complicated user interface for children and created a much more child-friendly full-screen immersive experience. Google also states that YouTube kids offers children a variety of age-appropriate content that parents can feel good about, including: "Sesame Street, Thomas & Friends, and Dreamworks, online hits like Mother Goose Club, TuTiTu, and Super Simple Songs, plus anything else they’re into — music, gaming, science, crafts, and more."

YouTube Kids also gives parents the ability to control what and for how long their children watch things on YouTube Kids. For example, the parent can disable the search function, enabling a built-in timer to ensure that their child isn't spending too much time watching videos, and much more.

You can check out Google's promotional video on the new YouTube Kids application below:

How young of an audience is this catered to? No kids of my own, but I am curious.

This was the perfect app for my 3-year-old. Now I don't have to see inappropriate things popping up like on the original YouTube app. I literally sat next to her while she was on YouTube
