  • New Insight Into What Outgoing Macworld Editor May Be Doing at Apple

On Wednesday, MMi's Akshay Masand reported that outgoing Macworld senior editor Chris Breen will soon be leaving his post at the publication to go to work for Apple.

Of course, neither Apple nor Breen has publicly dished on what the Apple journalist will be doing in Cupertino. But a new report on Thursday morning from NativeMobile is raising an interesting prospect.

"One of our sources has a theory," says NativeMobile's Greg Madsen with regard to Breen's new role at Apple. "According to our contact," Madsen adds, "Breen could be tasked with heading up a new native ad team inside of Apple’s iAd division."

While Apple has famously moved slow to adopt trendy new ad formats for iAd, mobile ad industry heavyweights ranging from Airpush to Facebook have begun moving the needle on native mobile ads, likely contributing to the pressure Apple feels to make iAd more creatively competitive.

Whether or not Breen will be tasked with ushering in the age of native mobile ads at iAd remains to be seen. But one thing is certain. With each passing day Apple continues to drag its feet on mobile advertising's hottest new format, the further behind iAd will be in the battle for mobile advertising supremacy.
