  • Games Depicting Violence in Icons and Screenshots Now Being Rejected from the App Store

It appears that game developers who depict guns or show human violence in their app icons and screenshots have been rejected from being accepted into the App Store. This may indicate that Apple has changed their guidelines for marketing games that exhibit violence in the App Store. According to PocketGamer, developers have been asked to change promotional material depicting violence and guns.

The developer behind the Gunslugs 2 game, Pascal Bestebroer, was also initially rejected from reviewers. He later told Kotaku that he was rejected due to one screenshot, and therefore was accepted again after. According to Bestebroer,

The idea behind it, from what I understand, is that even tho the app has a 12+ rating, they do need icons and screenshots and basically the store-page to be 4+ rated. So screenshots should not show anything that is below the 12+ rating.. which is a bit hard to do for most action games.
It was noted that if Apple is really taking this route, then they are not using the same standard across the board. The game Gang Nations was reportedly using cartoon gang members with revolvers in their photos, which was updated just last week. What are your thoughts on this matter? What a bunch of pansies we raise these days. Kids these days are far worse than an icon showing a gun on it. And I doubt this is the reason or will help them. A good old fashion *** whooping is all they need

Totally agree! I grew up with Mortal Kombat, the start to bloody, violent video games. It's not the games messing kids up. It's the s****y parenting.

Right. I grew up watching Steven sigal movies. Bloody and guns and fighting. Personally going on 28 years old. I just knew the difference from right and wrong and made a choice on how I wanted to live my life.

Yup! I'm 34 with 3 of my own children and on the same page. People are to lazy/scared to discipline their kids. It's pretty sad to be honest.

So for games like N.O.V.A., GTA, and Modern Combat, what's being done?

The App Store guidelines are getting more ridiculous by the day.

I'd like to know that too. These games are by nature first person SHOOTERS. How do you not show violence in adverts for that??

It's the age of disorders. Accountability is no longer in modern vernacular. Now we are told, "if it's right or moral for you..." So, if you do something stupid or illegal, it's not your fault, it was that terrible video game that took away your choice and made you kill that person.

Never fear! Big brother comes to rescue! With no new violent app icons, we should see a decline in...violent game play? Wait, I think the games will be played just the same...modern socialist mentality confuses the heck out of me!
