  • Facebook Announces New 'Place Tips' News Feed Feature for its iOS App

Facebook is bringing iPhone application users a handy new feature on Thursday, and it will be known as 'Place Tips.' This feature will allow you to have a more fulfilling experience when you visit new places, such as being able to see friends' photos and posts about the place that you're currently at if any of your friends have been there and tagged themselves there before.

Place Tips appears at the top of your News Feed, as shown above, and tapping on it reveals the more advanced interface that displays all of the useful information that you'll be interested in:

Not only will you be able to see friends' photos and posts about the locations that you're at, but you'll be able to read up on the location and what it's all about, such as reviews, upcoming events, and much more.

A video demonstration from Facebook is available below:

    <iframe src="//player.vimeo.com/video/118099966?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0" width="500" height="281" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>

Facebook notes that Place Tips can be enabled or disabled at any time from the application's Settings. Obviously, if you have location services disabled for the Facebook application, then Place Tips won't be able to work, so you will need to have location services enabled for the Facebook application to take advantage of Place Tips.

You can read more about the feature in Facebook's official blog post at this link.

I thought that was put in play a long time ago? If you go to the "More" tile, then click most recent. Or you can download the tweak "RecentFacebook" that works great. I haven't downloaded the latest FB so I'm unsure if it's still compatible. Worth a shot though.

If it proves to be popular, FB will remove it and release it as a separate, mandatory app.
