  • iOS 8.1.3 Closes a Ton of Security Holes in iOS... Including Those Used by TaiG

Apple released iOS 8.1.3 to the public Tuesday afternoon, and we're sure many of you have been waiting for the official announcement about whether or not iOS 8.1.3 would be jailbreakable or not.

To answer this question for those of you that have been waiting, Apple has posted a new page on their Web site today that details the security fixes in iOS 8.1.3, and several of the bugs that were fixed have been accredited to TaiG, and even to Pangu, as MuscleNerd pointed out on Twitter Tuesday afternoon:

With that being said, it does appear that iOS 8.1.3 patches the TaiG jailbreak, and that means that iOS 8.1.3 is not jailbreakable at this point in time. But that's not to say that iOS 8.1.3 will remain un-jailbreakable forever, it would just require a new tool with new exploits and vulnerabilities. So in all reality, it depends on the motivation of the hacking groups that put together the jailbreaks for us.

It's more likely that hackers will wait for iOS 8.2 to work with the possibility of a jailbreak. After all, new software means the possibility of new bugs and exploit possibilities, and there's really very little reason to waste valuable exploits on such a small iOS release.

If you're already jailbroken, and you're happy with it, we recommend staying just where you are. Those who don't care about jailbroken can still update to iOS 8.1.3 and enjoy their new features and bug fixes.

If only someone told that to the TaiG team.

I guess I won't be selling my 6 for the 6+ next week. I really hate the size of this phone now.

Wow, did I get lucky! Very early this morning I bit the bullet and finally upgraded my iPad Mini from 7.1.2 to 8.1.2. Infact I am still in the process of re-installing everything as I'm typing this! Looks like I did it just in the nick of time!

Thanks for this awesome website and for everything you all do!!

So what you are saying is that it is impossible for Apple to find security holes by them self that can be used for jailbreaking unless some team actually uses them to make a public jailbreak?

Why do everybody think that a "saved" security hole will never be patched? I would think that Apple is smart enough to find the most holes without the help of the jailbreak community. And the only ones that has something to loose is the community if a hole is not used or kept secret with the intention to use it in the next iOS release. It will probably already be patched by then.

Sure, Apple does get help when a jailbreak is released, but the hole would be found anyway. It just takes a little longer. If the community waits and saves the hole for the next release, and the next release.... we will never see a jailbreak again.

So i say, use it or loose it.

If I still buy a 6+ next week is there any chance that 8.1.3 will be on it?

Crap. My phone's been having issues and I figured I'd just wait till 8.1.3 to restore.

I believe 8.1.2 is still being signed right now.

I hope so cause I'm getting my 6+ next week and I would hate to not be able to jailbreak it and have to end up keeping the 6.

I'll take any jailbreak I can get. Holding them helps no one.

Exactly. I didn't have time to update and get the JB before they updated to 8.1.2, so I'm glad they released one for it.

It'll be highly unlikely any device on the shelf right now will have 8.1.3. You just need to get it immediately to be safe. If nothing else, ask them to check Serial numbers so you get an older version.

Do apple recall all the unsold devices and upgrade them or just let them sell out?
