  • Apple Releases Video on Calligrapher Who Created a Poem for New Hangzhou Retail Store

Just a few days ago we reported that Apple’s new West Lake Retail Store in Hangzhou, China is set to open this weekend. We also noted that before tearing down the covers of the new store, Chinese calligraphy was printed on the white barriers. Now, the Cupertino-based company turned to YouTube to release a video featuring calligraphy artist Wang Dongling who wrote the poem on the protective barriers. The poem was initially created as a celebration of opening an Apple store in Hangzhou. A behind the scenes video was also created to show Wang’s hard work.

The Cupertino-based company has translated the video on Wang and released it on their official YouTube channel, titling it ‘Apple Store, West Lake- About the Artist.’ In the video, Wang talks a little about the city and the reason behind the poem he created. The poem titled ‘Praising West Lake in the Rain’ translates to the following:

    Shimmering water on sunny days
    Blurred mountains through rainy haze
West Lake is like the beauty, Xizi
With light or heavy makeup, always beautiful

When the retail store was unveiled just a few days ago, many noted that the store closely resembles Apple’s upcoming flagship store in San Francisco. According to Apple SVP Angela Ahrendts, the Hangzhou Retail Store will be the first of five new stores to open within the region. The company has plans on expanding quite a bit internationally this year, and China is one of many countries they are looking to focus on. The West Lake Apple Store opened on Saturday, January 24th at 9am local time.

Beautiful work and a nice looking language. But I'm sure there are tons of people in China who can do this and have been doing this for hundreds (if not thousands) of years. Why is this deemed news? I guess Apple just discovered this and now wants to let the world know about something called caligraphy. At least that's what the artist who did this told us it was called... Hey I can paint a sign in english Apple, want to shoot another video?
