  • Firaxis Announce's Sid Meier's Starships, A New Interstellar Strategy Game

Those of you who are remotely into turn-based strategy and/or world building games, the name Sid Meier is one to be remembered. The acclaimed game designer seems to be turning towards a space-oriented game for his next project. Firaxis recently announced what is bound to be its next hit title named Starships, which revolves around the development of your on star fleet and the formation of your own interstellar federation.

Those of you who are fanatics of the genre may start to compare Starships to Civilization: Beyond Earth, but it should be noted that there are a few subtle differences. Both are turn-based strategy games with a sci-fi focus and both take place in an age after a successful period of space exploration. Starships in a strange way can be seen as a sequel to Beyond Earth.

Setting up and colonizing at other planets seems to have its own set of problems in the game. Starships are needed to be built and deployed in order to reach other locations and in time, a federation will likely be needed to help coordinate and protect the distant settlements. At least this is what the description of the game alludes to. If you’re a fan of Star Trek you may feel right at home though details continue to remain slim.

The game is scheduled to hit shelves sometime early in 2015 for the PC, Mac and iPad. It is also being rumored that the game might potentially offer cross-connectivity features for players who own both Starships and Civilization: Beyond Earth, but ultimately we’ll have to wait and see.
