  • Mold for Rear Shell of "iPad Pro" Shown in Recently Leaked Photo

Photos of what appear to be a mold for the rear shell of Apple’s rumored larger iPad, the “iPad Pro,” have surfaced on China’s Weibo microblogging site. As of right now, it remains unclear whether this mold is supposed to be for an actual iPad Pro shell or for a dummy unit but it does have a range of 12-13 units which makes it fall along the lines of the rumored 12’’ iPad Pro. That being said, there isn’t much else that can be discerned from the relatively poor quality photo.

The photo does appear to show faint details of what could represent an Apple logo in the center and maybe even a rear camera feature in the corner. The exact size remains unknown but it certainly appears larger than an iPad Air. The relatively simple design of the mold suggests that this may be an unofficial mold that is being used to create dummy units for manufacturers. These types of units often turn out to be accurately based on information which leaks out of Apple’s supply chain.

The timeframe in which an iPad Pro may even be released continues to remain a question. Previous reports from respectable sources were claiming that Apple had pushed back the production on the device in order to allow its suppliers to focus on Apple’s flagship iPhone 6 and 6 Plus handsets. Other reports have hinted towards an April-June timeframe but there hasn’t been any concrete evidence pointing to any specific date or timeframe. We’ll have to just wait and see.
