  • Chevron Set to Bring Apple Pay to Gas Pumps in Early 2015

Apple is reportedly working directly with Chevron to bring Apple Pay support to gas pumps, allowing drivers to refill and pay with their iPhone or Apple Watch. As of right now, the company hopes to have its systems in place for Apple Pay to be used at the pump by early 2015.

For those of you who didn’t know, Chevron is rumored to be an early adopter of Apple Pay. The company supported the tap-to-pay service at its stores and Texaco Extra Mile locations when it debuted in October. Until now, Chevron customers have only been able to pay when they enter the convenience store as support for Apple’s NFC payment service hasn’t been made available at gas pumps – a move which is about to change in the near future. It should be noted that Chevron is currently the only gas and oil company listed among the official Apple Pay partners.

This particular announcement surfaced on the heels of a report that said Apple is currently in talks with banks in the United Kingdom, where it is looking to launch Apple Pay in early 2015. With pay at the pump support and international expansion in the works, the start of 2015 could see several major advances for the Apple Pay service. Coupled with the debut of the Apple Watch which is set to debut in early 2015, Apple Pay could grow significantly.
