  • Apple Does Not Participate in Annual '12 Days of Gifts' Promo This Year

For those that always looked forward to Apple’s ’12 Days of Christmas’ or ’12 Days of Gifts’ must be wondering why nothing seemed to have been offered this year. This had been a tradition for Apple since 2008 where movies, apps, songs, and more were given away for free to U.S. users. Macworld had reported earlier in the week that according to sources, the Cupertino-based company was not participating in the annual promotion this year. Nobody knew if these rumors were true, but as of today Apple has still yet to announce the promo, which means the reports are confirmed.

Since 2008, Apple’s tradition would be to release the 12 Days of Gifts app in the App Store weeks before Christmas and then give away the first free item on Boxing Day (December 26th). A new item would be given away every day and users would have 24 hours to download the freebie before the new item replaced the old. The earlier days usually consisted of e-books or music singles and then on January 6th, Apple usually gave away the bigger gift. Last year, Rolling Stones’ ‘Sweet Summer Sun- Hyde Park Live’ mini album was given away on the 6th to users.

It is unclear as to why Apple decided not to participate in the event this year as the company was extremely successful with their products towards the end of the year. No one knows if it will be reinstated for Christmas in 2015, so we’ll just have to wait and see. Are you disappointed with Apple’s decision in not having the promo this year? Let us know in the comments below.

I have a feeling Apple isn't doing it this year because they blew the normal budget on U2's new album.

My theory is that it just didn't scale at all in the US market, and proved to be too much of a problem for everyone involved.

      I'm not disappointed.

Apple is just being a bunch of cheap bastards......seriously! this freaking company is approaching to be the very first to reach a worth of 1 trillion dollars and they're still penny pinching. God I wish Samsung was more of a competition.

Maybe they didn't want to deal with a bunch of whiney ingrate complaining about free stuff like people did with the U2 album debacle? But idiots will complain no matter what. Complain when you give away something for free that you have no obligation to. Complain when you don't give away something for free. People are amazingly selfish, complaining animals.

Thanks for proving my point. You act as though Apple has to give away stuff. Let me know where it says that in any contract or EULA.

Also, since you love samsung so much, please explain what has Samsung been generously giving away lately???

      *crickets*

      yep

people like you should pay 10-fold for every app, whining all the time and never happy
I saw the reviews and feedback that people left under 12 Days of Christmas app every year, I think Apple made the right decision.
It's a pity though that because of people like you, all the rest has to suffer as well.

Google gave away some free albums (Frozen Soundtrack, Trans-Siberian Orchestra) and movies (Lord of the Rings Fellowship of The Ring HD) this holiday season. I didn't see any backlash on Slickdeals. I was really looking forward to Apple doing this too.
