  • Foxconn Set to Invest into a New Display Factory to Help Supply Apple Exclusively

Foxconn’s Innolux recently announced that it will be building a new $2.6 billion sixth-generation plant in Southern Taiwan to supply displays exclusively to Apple. The new plant is set to begin mass production of panels exclusively for Apple by the end of 2015 according to a company representative who spoke to Bloomberg regarding the matter. Equipment installation is reportedly set to begin next month after Innolux received “an urgent request for exclusive capacity.”

The Foxconn Technology Group is expected to spend the money over the next two years on the factor which is currently set to employ 2,300 people at the Kaohsiung Science Park campus in Southern Taiwan. Not much else is known about the arrangement. What we do know is that in recent years, reports have claimed that Innolux Corp. has been slowly taking up Samsung’s spot in the supply chain.

Earlier this year, Apple ended up tapping Innolux to supply the 4.7-inch Retina displays used in Apple’s current iPhone 6. The other rumored LCD suppliers are said to be LG Display and Japan Display. For those of you who didn’t know, Innolux is Taiwan’s largest LCD screen manufacturer and Apple uses LCD technology on most of its products including the iPhone, iPad, its MacBooks and the iMac.
