  • Apple to Reportedly Repurpose Use of Mesa, Arizona Plant to Help Preserve Jobs

A recent report claims that the Mesa, Arizona facility will be repurposed suggesting that some of the current employees may be able to continue to work at the location. The news comes in, adding background to Apple’s vow to keep as many jobs as possible at the plant which it had originally leased to GT Advanced. Since GTAT filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy, there hasn’t been any clear sign as to what Apple plans to do with the plant or its local staff once the current operations cease. Mesa city manager, Christopher Brady, provided some insight into the situation regarding Apple’s plans:

They've indicated their commitment to us: They want to repurpose that building and use it again.
For those of you who didn’t know, Apple’s Mesa plant was announced last year by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer who boasted that Apple’s presence was a major economic driver for the state. The Cupertino California finished the build this summer and made sure that it was equipped for renewable power supply agreements and its own eco-friendly power station. Mesa Mayor, John Giles, also expressed his support for Apple’s continued interest in Arizona stating that he plans to visit the company’s headquarters in Cupertino California in the near future. He had the following to say regarding the matter:

Apple could've invested in a facility literally anywhere in the world. There's a reason they came here, and none of those reasons have changed.
We’ll have to wait and see what Apple ends up doing but it definitely seems like they are trying to repurpose the plant and figure out an effective solution to the problem at hand.
