  • 'WatchSpring' Jailbreak Tweak Brings the Apple Watch Home Screen UI to the iPhone

Just a couple of days ago, we showed you a developer's demonstration of the Apple Watch Home Screen user interface running on an iPhone. The demand for such functionality has been extremely high for iPhone users; especially those that are jailbroken and actually have the ability to make something like this happen on the iPhone.

Apple's Watch Home Screen utilizes what's called a "universe" Home Screen, meaning that each of the applications on the Home Screen are treated as planets, stars, or other orbital space objects. The new Apple Watch Home Screen offers brand-new scrolling and panning effects, as well as pinch to zoom, and a new animation for launching applications.

An iOS developer from Reddit released a public .deb file on Wednesday that officially brings this functionality to jailbroken devices running iOS 8.0 or later. The developer calls the jailbreak tweak WatchSpring and it officially gives your iPhone an Apple Watch-like Home Screen. To download it, you will need to follow the download link below:

Since the tweak is available as a .deb package, you will need to use other non-Cydia methods such as SSH transfer or iFile as a means to install it. After installing the tweak via SSH or iFile, it is necessary to then install the "Open" extension by iOS developer Conrad Kramer from Cydia, as it is a dependency for the WatchSpring jailbreak tweak:

Once installed, just reboot your device and you'll be able to start using the new Apple Watch-like interface on your iPhone running iOS 8.0 or later.

At this point in time, the developer warns that the tweak can cause SpringBoard crashing issues if it's installed on a device that already has SpringBoard-modifying tweaks installed on it, so it's recommended that you keep your installed jailbreak tweak base to a minimum when installing WatchSpring to prevent any issues.

WatchSpring is an open source project, so if you're into this kind of stuff and want to see how the tweak works, you can view the source code at this link. It's unknown at this point in time if the tweak will ever make it to Cydia.

Check out the video below on how the Apple Watch Home Screen works on the iPhone Home Screen:

vnisforvietnam on page 2 (currently post #36) has one of the best methods for installing and keeping this tweak. Even fixes safe mode error for devices with no other tweaks.

Not all the way up to iOS 8. It's iOS 8 only. You can't install this on a device running iOS 7 or earlier.

I just installed "WatchSpring" pretty cool Tweak and I was very excited to try it. I installed it in way of SSH. I actually put it in the folder I created when installed Cydia. I actually found a easier way than using Putty to install it. Since you already created an "Autoinstall" folder when you SSH Cydia onto your phone, I just copied that .deb file there and turned my phone off 2 times. The other file that was needed from Cydia, "Open" was automatically installed. So after I restarted it twice and open my unlock screen it was working. On my particular phone 6 plus, I was only able to scroll and view my apps. If I try to access my apps it crashed immediately, again i'm on iPhone 6 plus and it might not have been tested for it. I look forward to updates on his tweak.

I had to going into Cydia and uninstall that tweak "Open" and that is removed it (WatchSpring) from my phone.

It was actually pretty easy to install and uninstall using the the 2 methods I described in my 2 posts.

you'll have to install Activator and Applist to create a gestures to activate and inactivate this tweak, like double tapping the clock on the status bar would work just fine.

It says in the 4th paragraph that you need to use non-Cydia methods such as SSH transfer or iFile (which SSH transfer is fine) but I wasn't aware that ifile was compatible with ios8?

For people worried about finding apps. What I do is install activator set on springboard only a single press of the home button to open spotlight. Works fine for me.

To install Cydia you must have done so using open SSH if not then you don't have Cydia but you can also install Apple File Conduit "2" which was upgraded to iOS 8 and use USB instead of open SSH

Filza is the alternative to iFile, for now. You don't even need SSH access w/ that tweak. I did have to use MobileTerminal to install, though

I was replying to ukblake he asked a funny question which made no sense if he installed Cydia, but how do your guys reply to a certain person on this App? or is it not possible and the reply will always be at the bottom no matter how many people already wrote something before you could reply to that person?
Sorry I kind of messed it up I hope you understand what I'm asking.
