  • Apple Finally Debuts iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in China

October 17th marked the official launch day of Apple’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus devices in China. Preorders on the devices in China were said to have set new records as soon as it was available for consumers and even before then, people were selling the devices in the black market. However, much to our surprise, The Wall Street Journal reported relatively short lines at flagship Apple Stores in China on launch day. This is definitely surprising as China is known for the infamous time Apple had to stop selling the 4S due to chaos, and the time a fight broke out in front of the store back in 2011.

According to The Wall Street Journal, only about 100 people lined up Friday morning in front of Beijing’s Sanlitun Apple Store. The first of those in line were apparently people who preordered the devices and were there for pick up. Apple had come out with a pre-order system where customers had specific times to pickup their devices, which helped a lot in preventing chaos yesterday morning. It was noted that the line was relatively short possibly due to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus devices being sold from third party carriers at midnight (before Apple Stores even opened at 8am the next morning).

And those that REALLY wanted one probably snagged one on the black market. One can make a fine living buying and reselling new phones in territories that have not released them yet.

I wonder what the Chinese government is going to do with all the iPhones they seized from smugglers.

Sell them to officials in North Korea? Wait, nevermind, they have the Pyongyang Touch! So much better.

I'm guessing most people probably ordered it online.

They don’t seize genuine ones, they only force you to pay $50-$100 customs duty each.
