  • Apple's Mac Mini Finally Receives a Much Anticipated Update and Price Cut

Apple has announced a new price drop on its tiny, affordable Mac mini desktop on Thursday along with a hardware refresh on the device. The Mac mini starts at $499 now and has 4th-generation Intel Core processors, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, PCIe-based storage, and Intel Iris and HD Graphics 5000. The device originally started at $599 and got $100 knocked off its base model. Two Thunderbolt 2 ports and 802.11ac Wi-Fi were newly added to the Mac mini in the hardware refresh.

The base model at $499 features 4GB of memory, a 1.4 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with Turbo Boost, a 500GB hard drive, and an Intel HD Graphics 5000. The Cupertino-company also announced that the Mac mini will be shipped out to customers today. Those who are interested, can also configure the device with more memory (up to 16GB), a better processor (top-shelf 3.0 GHz dual-core Intel Core i7), and last but not least storage with options up to 1TB PCIe.

Meh... the base model is significantly slower than the previous one. 4GB RAM??? Really? Are we in 2010?? Very disappointing.

Actually I can hardly find any computers under $600 with more than 4GB of RAM.

I rather have the one i'm on now. Why would I give up my quad core processor i7 for dual-corei7 ? Makes no sense. I feel like sometimes technology is going backwards. I rather have my computer working on 4 things than 2. What a big disappointment from Apple.

They duped us. Ever since Steve Jobs passed the company went a totally different direction. They forgot about the power end users. They pacify us with minor tweaks. I'm a Mac mini lover but this one was 2014 bull!
They took away what made the mini perfect.
We forget it's about the cores, only dual? I have a few quad core ones and the rock. All outfitted with dual 1tb Ssds and 16gb ram.
But I heard they could get the parts for the newer processors so we gonna have to wait again for proper update. Let's see when a tear down comes out to see the real deal on upgradability. I'm beginning to hate them now. But hate PCs and windows worst. Just gonna buy a few leftovers from the stores.
