  • iPad mini 3 Announced... and Largely Ignored

The iPad mini 3 was announced today during Apple's media event in Cupertino, California.

Of course, if you blinked or went to get a glass of water during the presentation, you might have missed it.

Speaking to the third generation iPad mini for what seemed to be only a matter of seconds, the pint-sized iPad did, indeed, get a confirmed refresh as intensely rumored in recent weeks. But there was no live demo. And there was virtually nothing said beyond the brisk confirmation of new features and its pricing and availability.

Adding gold into the mix of available colors, iPad mini 3 comes with 7.9-inch Retina display, a 5MP iSight camera, offers 1080p HD video recording, an HD camera for FaceTime, 802.11n with MIMO, and -- as expected -- the addition of Touch ID.

iPad mini 3 (16 GB) starts at $399. It's $499 for 64 gigs, and the 128GB model runs $599. The LTE-ready models tack on a $130 bump up in price.

Similar to the iPad Air 2, preorders for iPad mini 3 begin tomorrow and they will ship next week.

This is very disappointing. Waste of money to upgrade to this.

No mention of the processor? Not thinner, or lighter, or faster? Looks like they just tacked on a TouchID and called it a day.

It seems like they're really pushing for people to buy the more expensive iPad Air. It doesn't cost all that much more to produce the Air, but they make a heckuva lot more profit on each one sold.

I thought the same thing. Not even an AC wifi chip.

I'm disappointed as well. I'd love to have the reflective screen.

Was waiting for the iPad Mini 3 and the Nexus 9 specs... sadly, they both cost a bomb.
I guess I'll pick up the Shield Tablet... which is budget friendly and packs a much better value for money... especially in the console mode which is NEVER coming to the Apple line... such a shame.

Do you really think so? I'm not sure if the iPhone 6 Plus will substitute the iPad Mini. They have different use-cases and the screen of the iPad Mini is still a bit larger than that of an iPhone 6 Plus. For me as a iPad Mini user the iPhone 6 Plus would be no solution.

But maybe others might think different
