  • OS X Server 4.0 Developer Preview Seeded Ahead of the OS X Yosemite Launch

Apple recently released a new version of OS X Server 4.0 to developers. The new version includes several improvements to features which were previously announced including SMB3 file sharing and new management options for devices running iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. Based on the seed notes, Apple’s latest OS X Server 4.0 build 14S323 brings improvements to built-in systems such as the server app, File Sharing and Profile Manager, all of which are designed to work with the upcoming OS X 10.10 Yosemite release.

Enterprise users should note that Profile Manager features are specific to the Apple’s recently released iOS 8 Mobile operating system. Administrators will be given access to new payload settings and Mobile Device Management rules pertaining to cross-platform Continuity features introduced with iOS 8 and the upcoming Yosemite with OS X Server 4.0. The tools offered in Apple Configurator 1.7 come alongside new features which offer more granular control over issued devices that are running the latest Apple software.

The most recent updates come just one day after Apple issued the second OS X 10.10 Yosemite golden master build to developers. This move suggests that the next-gen Mac OS X will likely be released to the public in the near future.

As far as the latest OS X Server 4.0 release, developers can download it via Apple’s Mac Dev Center.
