  • Apple: iOS 7 and iOS 8 Now Tied for User Install Base Numbers

Just a couple of weeks ago, Apple's App Store Distribution Web site told us that iOS 8 was installed on 46% of its users' devices. On Monday, the numbers have shifted a little bit, but honestly, not much.

Apple's App Store Distribution Web site is now saying that iOS 7 and iOS 8 are tied for the user install base for 47% of Apple's users' devices. 6% of iOS devices are running an earlier version of iOS, which is actually higher than was recorded two weeks ago, which was 5%.

Apple's numbers seem to be higher than those reported by Fiksu earlier today, by almost 10%. Fiksu found that iOS 8 has been installed on about 37-38% of current iOS devices.

Apple's numbers, on the other hand, record App Store visits as a whole (an application that comes on all iOS devices from the factory), and the numbers don't require users to install an application with the Fiksu API to record information, like Fiksu's numbers do, leaving Apple's numbers to be far more accurate.

While many are probably waiting for the bugs to get worked out of iOS 8, others are still waiting on their new iPhones to ship to them. The number is expected to continue to rise as time goes by.

I'm a 6-percenter, still rockin 6.1.2 on my 4S! I absolutely hate the lame iOS7&8 GUI. Not upgrading until (god forbid) a catastrophic failure forces me to restore! And then I will forever be a very unhappy iPhone user...

iOS 8 and the iPhone 6 are both late in bringing features that iPhone user wanted years ago.

I REALLY, mean REALLY miss IOS 7. My iphone 5 with ios 8.0.2 never worked so bad. I have so much bugs and crashes here and there that I can't enumerate all. I was jailbroken with 7.1.2 and had bugs and respring issues and thought ios 8 would fix my problems but it's worse now, and everything runs slower...
That's the worst decision I made concerning my phone.
I'm back here every day with fingers crossed hoping to read a news that Apple repopened the signing window of 7.1.2. Even if I know it won't happen!

... and no, I did not upgrade OTA. I did the whole iTunes process and restored as a new iPhone, not from a backup.
      Shame on me.

Why didn't you update and jailbreak to put the old GUI on 7.1.2? That wouldve made the most sense and wouldve made your device safer and more stable.

I almost update to 8.0.2... Glad I decided to wait it out. 8.1 looks much better to me.
