  • Microsoft Confirms Plans to Open a Retail Store on Fifth Avenue Blocks Away from Apple

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Microsoft has confirmed its rumored plan to open what the company describes as its “first flagship store” on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue. What’s more ironic in this matter? The location is set to be just a few blocks away from Apple’s glass-cubed flagship store.

For those of you who didn’t know, Microsoft started opening its own stores in 2009, roughly eight years after Apple opened its first retail store in McLean, Virginia. Since 2009, Microsoft has managed to open 104 stores in various locations including the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico. The Redmond Washington tech giant sells laptops, smartphones, Surface tablets, Xbox consoles and accessories at their retail outlets. The company’s new flagship store is set to be located at 677 Fifth Avenue where the Fendi outlet currently resides.

Microsoft is likely seeking to help offset the $1.7 B loss the company made on its Surface tablets despite various promotional efforts. After seeing the success of Apple’s flagship store on 5th avenue, even getting a piece of the pie may help the tech giant work towards its previous top-spot in the tech industry, although at the current rate, it’s unlikely to happen.
