  • Apple No Longer Signing iOS 7.1.2 Following Release of iOS 8.0.2

On Friday, Apple has finally stopped signing the popular iOS 7.1.2 firmware. This is a big deal for jailbreakers, as iOS 7.1.2 is the last public firmware that could be jailbroken using the Pangu jailbreak tool for Mac OS X and Windows machines.

The news was pointed out by well-known iOS hacker ih8sn0w on Twitter earlier this evening:

Just yesterday, Apple released iOS 8.0.2 to the public with official support for HealthKit and other improvements to the operating system. The update was released as a follow up to the iOS 8.0.1 firmware, which was released and then pulled immediately after problems were discovered with cellular data and Touch ID on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

With iOS 7.1.2 no longer being signed, those who restore their devices have no choice now but to upgrade to iOS 8. There is no longer a way to restore back to iOS 7.1.2 via iTunes. As iOS 8 cannot be jailbroken as of yet, it is recommended that current users of jailbroken devices exercise caution and try not to cause need for a restore.

As iPhone 4 users cannot upgrade to iOS 8, they are still able to restore to iOS 7.1.2; this device is technically jailbroken for life now.

      Will semi-restore work with 7.1.2?

Snuck my iPad Air in for a last minute restore and jailbreak this morning. I am enjoying iOS 8 on my iPhone 6 but I'm guessing my iPad jailbroke 7.1.2 is > stock 8.0.X. I should of checked it out while the signing window was open. Also I'm wondering if apple pay is going to work on a device that is jailbroken. If I recall correctly soft card (formerly Isis) would not work on a jailbroken i device or a rooted android.

This is the first time I didn't buy the new iPhone. I think I'm going to stay on my 5S with 7.02 + Jailbreak for awhile. I like being able to text via my windows computer too much. (via Remote Messages app) I also am happy with my two battery cases I rotate through. I'd love to have a bigger screen but I can wait a bit.

My iphone 6 plus is running great on 8.0. Any reason to update to 8.0.2?

I was playing around with 6 plus today and unfortunately it felt cheaply made. It feels like the slightest squeeze can bend it. On the other hand the Note 4 felt very solid and the display was breathtaking. I don't understand why the new iPhone display colors look very subdued compared to the 5s......all in all very disappointed. I guess I will finally make the switch after all, and this is coming from an iPhone user since the 2g.

You'll be back, Swifty! That Note4 may look pretty.. But Android OS is an inferior OS to iOS. You won't be able to bear it. I tried for a full month before I returned a Note 3 last year. Horrible experience..

Didn't there used to be a workaround to get pre-signed .ipsw files?

I guess you are lucky, but no seriously I hope you're kidding, for the i4 iOS 7.1.2 is the latest firmware, there will not be another update.

Agggghhhhhh.... Of all days! My 5S got stuck in boot loop, and I had to restore. Of course ! even though I had a 7.1.2 backup on my computer with iTunes, it wouldn't let me roll back. Now I have my 6 plus on the way with iOS 8 and now my backup phone is stock crap as well. Was hoping to one JB'n device to tide me over until iOS8 gets a jailbreak. Heard a rumor that iOS8 didn't patch exploits used in last Pangu?

Oh NO! Did anyone update their iPhone 4S? How does it run on the iOS 8.0.2? any good/bad? I'm about to unlock my dad phone, but I need to back up/restore.. Thanks.

Shouldn't have to restore to unlock..just plug into iTunes...

Unlock doesn't require a restore.. After unlock is completed - just plug into iTunes and you'll see the "congratulations you're unlocked" message.
