  • Major Problems Reported with iOS 8.0.1

On Wednesday, Apple released iOS 8.01. to the public, one week after the launch of iOS 8.

But all was not smooth sailing.

Within minutes of today's update, MMi began hearing from readers sharing the same complaints that are now spreading like wildfire across social media.

As it turns out, today's update has led to an untold number of individuals not being able to get a cell signal. As soon as the update was downloaded, we're told, iPhones were perpetually searching for service in error.

In addition to the "No Signal" prompt, the Touch ID finger print reader was supposedly thrown off kilter for some after the update, although we're not exactly sure how the finger print sensor is malfunctioning (this is just what we're hearing).

We also can't confirm that that this issue is limited to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units, but the bulk of iOS 8.0.1. update problems are experienced on those two new devices.

MMi will provide additional updates as more information becomes available. For now, if you haven't already downloaded the update, you may be wise to hold off on doing so for the time being.

I can't believe that it's been three years since OTA updates became a feature and they still haven't fixed them. I tried to install OTA but it wouldn't let me. I wonder if that's because they're freezing this update or if it's just how faulty the OTA system is.

They took it down because of the issues people were having.

Sadly my plus shows "searching". My iPad Mini 2 w/retina cellular works just fine. I'm reaching out to a contact to see what info I can get on when cell service will come back.

On a side note, why don't I ever read things completely?! I saw the update, jumped and then went "Well damn. Maybe I should be more cautious." *kicks at very small rocks on the ground*

apparently it's an issue with OTA updates. Download the IPSW and do it with iTunes.

I JB all my iOS devices so updating is NOT an option for me. Thankfully so in this instance.

This is why Apple should release these new operating systems to the masses as an optional demo, before their final release.

Anyone know if a wired restore from iTunes will correct the issue?

I checked with my friend at Apple and he also said yes, it should. So here goes! Backing up and restoring.

**Why did I build out 3 new playlists and update all of my music this morning?**

Downloading it via iTunes won't work. I completed the download and then it wouldn't let me continue the upgrade. I had to place my i6 on DFU mode to restore back to iOS 8.0

I think Apple just pulled iOS 8.0.1

Edit: still signing iOS 8 so folks can go back.

Apple must've pulled the update. Can't update on my iPad air or 5S. Says 8.0 is most recent.

Found the 8.0 IPSW and reinstalled out of 8.0.1. My new baby is running beautifully again!
