  • Apple Claims 46% of Devices Linked to the iOS App Store Are Already on iOS 8

Just less than one week after the release of iOS 8, Apple recently announced the next-gen mobile operating system is now on 46% of devices that are linked to the iOS App Store. As noted by Apple’s developer support portal for iOS App Store metrics, Apple’s iOS 8 seems to have experienced fast adoption since its launch last week on September 17.

What does this really tell us though? The fact that iOS users are downloading iOS 8 rather quickly means that iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch units running iOS 7 have dropped to 49% of the whole as of September 21. Earlier versions of iOS complete the tally with roughly a 5% share.

Compared to previous iOS releases, Apple’s iOS 8 seems to be tracking well. Last year’s iOS 7 launch managed to garner roughly 52% of the Web share after one week of available according to Chitika. The firm monitored the iOS 7 adoption rate over the past year and reported that distribution hit up to 90% for iPhones and 85% for iPads in the days leading up to Apple’s iOS 89 reveal at WWDC.

Users appear to be welcoming the latest mobile OS iteration as they show anticipation for features such as HealthKit and HomeKit frameworks, access to iCloud Drive, interactive notifications, among other features offered by iOS 8. Those of you who haven’t updated by are interested in upgrading their device firmware to iOS 8 can do so by running Software Update under Settings> General or connecting to iTunes via a Mac or Windows PC.

It should be noted that many users are complaining about bugs with iOS 8 as well so you may want to wait off until iOS 8.0.1, which is when Apple said they’ll be fixing bugs and issues that users are complaining about.

Wait, didn't everyone used to get on Google for only reporting devices that accessed the Play Store?

"Google only reports devices that are using the Play Store while Apple reports ALL iOS devices."

Now Apple is doing it, too.

I think he meant "If the report is coming from apple. they lie. All I know is that all social network sites/Websites say that 4 out of 5 people that have tried iOS 8 didn't like it and came back to iOS 7.1.2. Especially the iphone 4S users."

That makes a lot more sense, thanks.

      1. I'm obviously much more inclined to trust your unnamed social site.

      2. I'm curious as to how they're downgrading without Apple signing 7.1.2 anymore.

Apple have still been signing 7.1.2. At least as of Monday they were. I haven't heard that they have stopped yet.

Really? I was told by several people that Apple had stopped signing. If I was wrong, then my bad.

I follow this twitter feed for pretty up to date info on signing: https://twitter.com/TSSstatus

Looks like 7.1.2 is still good. 8.0.1 has gone down already though for some devices lol.
