  • Oculus Keynote Mentions Native Apps to Arrive on Mobile Platforms Including Apple's iOS

Oculus VR recently announced a new prototype VR headset dubbed Crescent Bay recently and went as far as mentioning something a bit more interesting for iOS device owners. The new headset will obviously tout several new and improved features from its predecessor but what’s more interesting is that it appears that the Oculus VR will begin support for native apps for Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android and, Microsoft’s Windows Phone.

Not much was mentioned regarding the native app support but Nate Mitchell, the Vice President of Product Oculus did mention that Oculus is looking to bring 2D native mobile apps that will allow users to access the platform from their mobile devices. This was also seen during the presentation, in which a slide was projected highlighting mobile devices as part of the Oculus Platform and logos of iOS, Android and Windows Phone to go along with it.

Although not much was revealed, it appears like a step in the right direction for both the Oculus platform and the mobile platforms. We’ll have to wait and see what native apps will be made available and what functionality will be provided to consumers as a result of the added functionality.
