Wednesday evening, following the highly sought-after release of iOS 8 to the general public, Apple released an update for Mac OS X dubbed OS X Mavericks 10.9.5. The update includes a number of bug fixes and stability improvements that all OS X Mavericks users are going to want to take advantage of.

The Mac App Store notes that OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 includes:

    • Improvements for the reliability of VPN connections that take advantage of smart card authentication technology
    • Improvements for the reliability of accessing files that are located on an SMB server
    • And the inclusion of Safari 7.0.6

More detailed information about the OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 update can be found on Apple's Web site at this link.

Installing this update will require a reboot, so it's recommended that you save all of your progress in all open applications before you install it. To access it, you can open the Mac App Store and visit the Updates tab, or you can go to the  icon in your Menu Bar and select the "Software Update" option.

OS X 10.10 Yosemite is still set to be released to the public some time this Fall, so stay tuned!
