  • Google is Set to Publicly Release 64-bit Version of Google Chrome for OS X in November

Google Chrome is a very popular free and third-party, cross-platform Web browser known for its simplicity and speed. Google Chrome is only available in a 32-bit flavor for Mac OS X at this point in time; however, Google has announced in a blog post that a 64-bit flavor of the Google Chrome Web browser is due to be released in November of this year.

In late August we released Chrome 64-bit for Windows, which brought benefits in speed, security and stability. We’re now bringing these benefits to OS X with Chrome 64-bit for Mac, version 39, due to be released in Nov 2014. Unlike on Windows, where Chrome is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit, on Mac, Chrome will only be available in 64-bit with version 39 and after. As a result, 32-bit NPAPI plugins will not work on Chrome on Mac version 39 onwards.

    Release Schedule

    • Windows: Stable version 37 is currently available as an opt-in via the Windows-64-bit link
    • Mac: Stable version 39 will be released to all customers in November 2014 via a Chrome update

According to Google, when a 64-bit version of the Web browser is officially released for Mac OS X, a 32-bit version will no longer be available to download. For Mac OS X users, this won't matter, since all modern Macs are currently 64-bit, which means there are only benefits to be made from this change.

A 64-bit flavor of Google Chrome has been available for the Windows operating system since August, so hearing that Google is finally bringing a 64-bit version of its popular Web browser to the popular Mac OS X operating system will be music to the ears of those using it.

The 64-bit version of Google Chrome to be released in November will be dubbed version 39 and will offer speed improvements, security improvements, stability improvements, and more.

For now, you can download the latest version of Google Chrome for free from this link.
