  • iCloud Photo Library Feature Demoted to Beta Status and SMS Continuity Feature Delayed

Although the iCloud Photo Library was available during the iOS 8 beta testing period, Apple seems to have demoted the feature to beta status and even went as far as removing it from the iOS 8 golden master, which is the software set to be distributed to the public next week. The Cupertino California company has stripped mentions of the iCloud Photo Library from its iCloud preview page despite it being prominently featured at the top of the site previously. The preview page instead focuses in iCloud Drive, the new iCloud storage plans, Family Sharing and iCloud Sharing leaving the iCloud Photo Library absent.

It hasnít been made clear as to why the feature was demoted back to a beta status but speculation is pointing towards the negative press that iCloud received recently due to the celebrity photo leaks. Along with iCloud Photo Library, Apple also appears to have decided to delay the SMS Relay feature of Continuity until October. Based on a recent iOS 8 press release, SMS Continuity will be added to iOS 8 in October while iCloud Photo Library will be available as a beta during the same month. For those of you who donít know what SMS Continuity is, it allows users with Macs and iOS 8 devices receive SMS text messages and phone calls through the iPhone.

As mentioned during this past weekís media event, Apple plans to release iOS 8 to the public on Wednesday, September 17, which is just two days ahead of the September 19th release date of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The new iteration of iOS is set to be released despite missing the few features will come at a later date, presumably in the form of an iOS 8 version update.

I'm pretty sure they got their iCloud passwords. Which can be gotten from anywhere. They're just doing it as a publicity stunt to downplay the hype. iCloud is secure. You have to protect yourself likely you always should.

You are 100% correct. It wasn't a security flaw on the half of apple. It was the Celebs idiotic own faults.

You mean I couldn't already receive SMS or calls through a phone?

Professor Jack, I think you're just getting over the top of your head.

There's this thing called a black market, and people trade celebrity nudes for money or whatever they want. Some guy who had access to all these celeb nudes decided to leak them to the Internet.

How they ended up getting the pictures was by accessing users iCloud accounts. This can simply be done by guessing the password/security questions and other security measures. This can be done with any service. Most people don't understand that and well since one idiot said, "iCloud hacked - Apple sucks!" everyone believes it.

Anyways, I thought SMS continuity was already released in beta 5? My SMS and iMessage both sync back and forth from my iPhone and MBP.
