  • Old Device Trade-In Options for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Buyers

Many people will be preordering Apple’s new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at 12:01a.m PDT on September 12th and those who do so, will be left with an older iPhone or Android device. The good news is, currently there are plenty of trade-in options for those looking to cut down on the new smartphone’s cost. T-Mobile has promised to provide the best trade-in values compared to other mobile carriers. The company even went as far as to say they will price match any other carrier’s offering if it is better than theirs plus give an additional $50.

Verizon on the other hand, will be offering consumers who trade in an iPhone 4, 4s, 5, or 5c a $200 gift card or $300 for the 5s when buying the new iPhone. This will work for those using the company’s Edge program, signing a new 2-year contract, or paying retail price for the device. AT&T may be offering as much as $300 for those trading in an older device for the new iPhone 6 or 6 Plus.

Sprint, like T-Mobile, has offered to price match other trade-in policies that could be better than theirs. They are also offering as much as $300 for an older device for trade-in. As for the Cupertino-based company themselves, an online program and in-store trade-in program are both offered. A 32GB iPhone 5s can receive as much as $310 depending on how good of a condition the device is in. However, for those picking up the phone in store, an immediate gift card will be offered for the old device.

Best Buy’s trade-in program is offering good conditioned 32GB iPhone 5s $310 meanwhile Target is offering $247.50 for a 32GB iPhone 5s. Who do you think has the best trade-in program and where will you purchasing the device?

For clarification, is T-Mobile offering +$50 to any deal or just other carriers? For example, if I walked into the T-Mobile store and told them the Best Buy deal, would they add $50?

Is selling the phone directly always better than trade-ins, even for T-Mobile? Mine has a few little marks on it too. Not sure if I'll upgrade or not.

      I agree.
Swappa.com has unlocked iPhone 5S going for $399 as the lowest and up to $810 as the highest. Some of the more recent ones have sold for $350-$500

Easiest would be to trade in/swap. If you want the maximum amount you sell on CL or Ebay IMO.

Depends all on if you can handle long term plans. I traded my 4s with virgin, for a 5 with Verizon, at zero cost. Then canceled the Verizon plan. Paid the early cancelation for $250. Switched to tmobile for $30 a month.

If I trade in the iPhone 5 for an iPhone 6 might have no cost at first. But early cancelation will be $350. The traded in iPhone 5 is worth $250 at least. So am really paying $600.

      Do the math!!

No, only other mobile service providers.

Depends on the condition of the phone. Most likely you are better off with a private sales, but if your phone is really banged up, you might get more from a guaranteed trade in price deal from a carrier (if it meets their minimum standards) I tihnk for most, as long as it works, doesn't have a cracked screen, and isn't half destroyed they'll accept the trade in.

It's like a car dealer offering a minimum for any trade in: their focus is selling the new car, not what they can get for the old one.

It's a special deal they are doing if you trade it in to get the 6

I just traded in 7 sprint iphone 4's I bought off a cell phone store that had clean esn for 79 a piece. ATT Gave me 200 for each iphone, 400 on each card for a total of 1200. They didn't ask for ID or account or anything.
