  • Apple to Utilize New Digital Queue System Dubbed "Reservation Pass" for iPhone 6 Launch

Apple has said to be implementing a new reservation system for customers who opt to wait in line outside of a retail store to purchase a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. The Cupertino California company is said to be handing out training materials to employees on a new “virtual queue” system called Reservation Pass. The system is to reportedly keep track of the line position of each customer, syncing with the store’s inventory information to ensure customers waiting in line will be able to receive a device.

Apple currently hands out paper cards to those standing in line, allowing them to reserve an available device but the company often waits until just before the purchase time to hand out the cards. Reservation Pass is likely to work similarly with customers being registered shortly before the opening of the store, which actually provides little benefit to those who wait in line overnight or longer.

Customers will at the very least be able to reserve an iPhone after waiting in line and then purchase it later in the day if any issues arise such as problems with carrier authorization and upgrade eligibility issues. This should help prevent people from selling the physical cards on release day.

For those of you who didn’t already know, both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be made available for purchase on Friday September 19th. Apple will be accepting pre-orders this year and will begin taking them starting Friday, September 12 at 12:01 AM Pacific Time.

Crazy that someone would wait in a line for something like this. Don't you have anything better to do? They'll make more. You don't have to have it on day 1 to impress [insert name here].

Well, I can't blame these people because I know I'm one of them. I have never waited for an iPhone tho I usually wait until Apple Store have it on the display and I would go in there and test it out before buying or if it's worth upgrading too. I did already set my mind of getting the iPhone 6 4.7 inch display 128gb and when I see the iPhone 6 Plus it just blown my mind away from the iPhone 6 lols..... And now I'm having a second thoughts on getting the iPhone 6 version. I might just go with the iPhone 6 Plus 64gb model.....

Last year I wasn't even planning to get a 5S for a while. Because online sales were massively backed up. I walked into my local mall a week or two after launch and the line seemed short. I asked if they had the model I wanted, and they did, so I hopped in line and 30 minutes later walked out with my phone. I felt bad for people who still had weeks to wait for online orders.

I think preorder and in-store pickup will really help with the line issues.

A lot of people do it because they are going to turn around and sell them for profit. If you can sell them overseas, you can get a pretty tidy profit.
