  • Google Hangouts for iOS Gets Ability to Make Voice Calls, Leave Voicemail

On Wednesday, Google updated its Google Hangouts application for iOS with some new calling features that users are sure to enjoy. The latest version of the application that can now be downloaded from the iOS App Store is now version 2.2.0.

The new calling features users get include making free voice calls and having free access to voice-mail on both the calling and receiving end. The free voice calls are limited to those that are in your Hangouts contacts list. It's worth noting that the voice call feature is also being rolled out to Android users and Web users today *iOS users are not the only ones.

In addition, Google has added better Enterprise support to the application for corporations that might be using the service simply logging into your account will link it to your other Google applications installed on your iOS device.

Finally, Google is also bringing improved report abuse features and user-blocking to Google Hangouts so that you can help make using the application more of a pleasant experience for everyone.

Existing users of the Google Hangouts application for iOS will find this update under the Updates tab in the App Store application. Alternatively, you can download the latest version of Google Hangouts for free from this App Store link.

I've been using google hangouts for ios forever to make calls and leave voicemails to any phone number in the US....it uses my google voice number....so basically they have just added the ability to make calls to other hangout users without the need for a google voice number? Doesn't that only limit this feature to others with the app?

Why would anybody want to use Google Hangouts to begin with? Just my opinion. I never used Hangouts even when I had my GS4 and my Nexus 5. Could never get it to work properly. Too many problems with it. Is it really that much better on iOS?

Hangouts is an awesome app. Free calls to anyone in the US with your google voice number. Same features as FaceTime, FaceTime audio, and iMessage but it's cross platform. Works on iOS and Android.
