  • 9 in 10 Apple Users Now Running iOS 7 Ahead of iOS 8 Launch

Just ahead of the formal launch of iOS 8, new data indicates than better than 9 in 10 Apple device users (91% overall) are now running iOS 7.

For Apple, of course, this comes as no surprise given how small of a role fragmentation has historically played within the iOS ecosystem. But according to a new report from OpenSignal, the same -- once again -- can't be said of Android, as fragmentation remains a nagging reality for Google's little green robot.

Unlike one version of iOS dominating Apple's mobile product landscape, OpenSignal reported today that five versions of Android each retain 10% or more of the total Android market share.

"Fragmentation is both a strength and weakness of the Android ecosystem, a headache for developers that also provides the basis for Androidís global reach," the report reads. "Android devices come in all shapes and sizes, with vastly different performance levels and screen sizes. Furthermore, there are many different versions of Android that are concurrently active at any one time, adding another level of fragmentation. What this means is that developing apps that work across the whole range of Android devices can be extremely challenging and time-consuming."

What a load of kak. Apple are going to spin this as it’s a great OS, (it might be good but that’s not the whole story).
What people who love to quote this nonsense forget, is that there are a number of people that would downgrade given the choice but unlike a regular device they can’t. In addition Apple restrict features from older OS because ‘the hardware will not give a smooth experience’. Yeah right! It’s to force an upgrade.

If iOS 8 does not have a jailbreak, I will stay on 7.2.1.

Considering only like 9-12% of people jailbreak, only like 4-5% of people would downgrade.

The iPhone 4 is just now not being supported, it's over 4 years old. Good luck have more then 18 months support on Android.

I myself will stay on 7.1.2 unless there's a jailbreak on 8. It won't be long now for the GM as carriers were seeded Beta 6 and asked for T/A before September 5th
