  • Apple TV No Longer Available for In-Store Pickup

With Apple on the verge of kicking off a new product cycle, any and all Apple products are conceivably ready for a refresh -- including the Apple TV.

Given that the hardware hasn't been updated in well over two years, Apple TV is ready for a major overhaul. And thanks to a new clue from Apple's online store, some believe the refresh is looming large for the weeks ahead.

According to reader tips and subsequent confirmation from across the tech blogosphere tonight, Apple is no longer allowing in-store pickup of the Apple TV. Although you can still purchase the set-top box online from Apple and have it shipped to your home, the pick-up option is no more as of this writing.

Obviously, some are interpreting this development as an indicator that supplies of the current-gen model are drying up fast ahead of the product refresh. Although we haven't heard serious sources say as much, there's a possibility Apple may reveal what's next for the Apple TV in early September when iPhone 6 is announced.

IMHO, jailbroken ATVs are pointless anyways. Had mine JB for a couple years and it was just a headache.

It's almost easier to just convert to m4v and be done!

If it has a few new features, especially third party apps and maybe some integrated gaming, and keeps it's price I'd definitely pick one up.

I think it still has not been jailbroken, but i'm not sure why. No other Apple product has been such a problem being jailbroken. I think Apple TV 2's are still going double their original price on ebay because of it.

I had a jailbroken 2, but it was problematic and I rarely used the jailbreak features. I think the big missing peice for me was Hulu+. Once they got that I sold the ATV 2 for $150 and picked up a 3 for $85 refurb.

I'd love for it to be jailbroken so I can stream PC content to it outside from iTunes. Something like Plex, Infuse, etc. That's why I'm really REALLY hoping for an updated Apple TV with an App Store because those type of things would be in it. I currently use my PS3 to stream from my PC.

Plex can work with the ATV3. Just install PlexConnect. I actually sold my ATV2 and bought 3 ATV 3's for the money. I now have an ATV3 at every TV and my wife loves it.
