  • Photos of Alleged 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Rear Shell Leaked

September 9th can’t come soon enough. For those who don’t already know, September 9th marks the day Apple will be holding an event to most likely announce their next generation iPhone and maybe more. But as we are a little less that 3 weeks away, photos and leaks are circulating the web almost everyday. They might be the real deal, but we won’t know until the Cupertino-based company gives their official announcement. This time, new photos have leaked showing the body of the alleged 5.5-inch iPhone 6- dubbed the ‘iPhone 6L.’

The photos apparently came from Apple’s supply chain, but were shared by Evasi0nJailbreak.com. According to the site, it may only be a final rear shell prototype. Photos shown compare the early images of the smaller 4.7-inch iPhone rear shell to the recently released 5.5-inch one. Some rumors going around include the devices getting a sapphire crystal display, a larger battery, and a higher resolution.

Both devices have apparently entered mass production recently, but some say the larger 5.5-inch ‘iPhone 6L’ will be released at a later date than the smaller 4.7-inch. We’ll just have to wait until September 9th to know officially what exactly is going on, how the devices will look, and what they will sport.

I hear the 4.7" iPhone will not have a 1920x1080 display. Instead (so they say) it will have a res of 1704x960.

If this is true I'm preparing myself to be very disappointed in the new iPhone.

And if it's still retina display, meaning you cannot see the pixels, thus you cannot tell the difference between identical displays that have only that resolution difference, how exactly will you be disappointed?

I know all my Android fanboy friends love touting their "better displays," but that has to do with the technology behind it, i.e. Super AMOLED, etc., not the higher resolution... It's like people who say their phone's camera is better, because it has more megapixels... That's only 1 part of the bigger picture, no pun intended. And after a certain point, more megapixels just isn't making your photo look better... It's just making that grainy *** picture you took BIGGER.

The 5s shell looks so much better. I'm hoping this isn't real but the consistency of these leaks is telling me that it is.

To be honest,at certain angles and in certain types of light I've been able to make out tiny pixels in fonts. It'd be nice to actually have a full HD resolution display as that's the standard. It's 2014! HD tech has been around for so long now! I feel Apple needs to catch up despite them saying it's a "retina" display. Apple seems to give is the consumer "just" what we need nothing more. I'm getting a bit fed up with their product cycle refresh as it's never anything that great....anymore at least. This coming from someone who is called an Apple fanboy by his buddies.

      AirPlay sub-1080p to a 1080p or 4K TV = disappointed.

Did any of the previous iphone models have a cutout for the apple logo? Is this one going to glow? That would be pretty cool…

This will never happen iphone battery is way too small, even the so called larger battery for iphone 6. I feel like apple is not even trying to compete anymore.

Honestly, NO ONE has made a bigger leap in screen quality then when they went from the 3GS to the 4. That's when the screens started getting good.

I have read that possibly the Apple logo on the back will glow when you have notifications. I hope that is indeed the case. Very cool idea.
