  • Beats Gets Promotional Assistance from Google

Apple's recently acquired Beats music service is getting some extra promotion from an unlikely source -- Google.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Google has begun exploring with “Listen Now” ads. The ads, we're told, promote Spotify, Rhapsody and, yes, Apple 's Beats Music.

"Search for the name of a musical artist," the report reads, "and Google displays ads – grouped together under the “Listen Now” label — promoting music services, including its own Google Play."

For now, the ads turn up in searches on PCs and mobile devices. Fortunately, they are "performing well" for some advertisers, a source close to the service admits.

“We’re happy to help users quickly find legitimate sources for their favorite movies, music and more via Google search,” a Google spokesman is quoted in the report, although no comments were made specifically with regard to Apple.
