  • Hot Rumor: Apple Poised for a 'Swell' Acquisition

If you check the sofa cushions around Apple's Cupertino, California headquarters, you may find more than the company is poised to allegedly spend on its next acquisition.

Nonetheless, chatter of Apple's next company grab is making headlines today. Liz Gannes of Re/Code is hearing that Swell is on Apple's radar. Described as a "Pandora-for-talk-radio app," Swell may join the Apple family shortly.

"The deal is worth about $30 million," Gannes says, citing sources familiar with the matter. "The Swell acquisition comes as part of a string of content apps that Apple has picked up over the last couple of months, including Beats, which had a significant $3 billion price tag; and book recommendation service BookLamp, which was another small-ish buy."

With Apple focusing aggressively on augmenting their content offerings everywhere from iTunes to Apple TV, the Mac maker appears to be following the course industry analysts projected for Apple's near and long term future -- a slightly revamped business model that empowers Apple to draw more of its mega-earnings from services/software rather than hardware.

For now, official sources at Apple and Swell aren't taking about the alleged deal. But it looks like a done deal to those in the know.
