  • Lenovo Dumping Domestic Small-Screen Windows Tablets

One day removed from news that Microsoft is eliminating 18,000 jobs largely due to the company's floundering mobile devices business, it comes as no surprise that Lenovo is dropping a pair of small-screen Windows tablets from its production plans.

According to published reports this morning, Lenovo is effectively done selling various Windows tablets that boast screen sizes under 10 inches. Sources close to the tech maker say that sagging domestic demand is the reason Lenovo is dumping small-screen Windows tablets in the U.S.

The ThinkPad 8 and one of the Miix 2 models are the first casualties of the decision.

“In North America, we’re seeing stronger interest in the larger screen sizes for Windows tablets and are pleased with initial customer demand for the ThinkPad 10,” Raymond Gorman, a Lenovo spokesman, is quoted by PCWorld.

“In other markets, particularly Brazil, China, and Japan, the demand for ThinkPad 8 has been much stronger, so we are adjusting our ThinkPad 8 inventories to meet increasing demand in those markets," Gorman adds. "If market demand for ThinkPad 8 changes, we will re-evaluate our strategy."
