  • Apple Updates iTunes U App to Version 2.0 With Discussions and iPad Improvements

On Tuesday, Apple released an update for its iTunes U application for the iOS platform that brought it up to version 2.0 in the App Store.

We had been looking forward to this update for about a month; Apple announced at the end of last month that the update was coming soon, but never told us when it would be available. That question has been answered today.

iTunes U 2.0 is now available in the iOS App Store with a number of improvements. The application now allows users to host and carry out discussions with one another right from the application. Students enrolled in classes will be able to talk to their classmates and ask questions about the class or work in the class. Both students and teachers can be involved and push notifications will keep users in the loop.

iPad users also have a lot to gain from the update. Teachers can now create entire courses or update existing ones right from the iPad version of the iTunes U application. Teachers can also provide students with necessary tools right from the iPad application, use the camera for class support, create class materials with Apple's mobile iWork suite and include them in iTunes U courses, and publish their courses to the iTunes U catalog.

Existing users of the iTunes U application for iOS will find the update under the Updates tab in the App Store application. Alternatively, you can download the latest version of iTunes U for free from this App Store link.
