  • New Developer Tools Hint at Bigger iPhones and iPads

It has been expected that Apple will be releasing a larger 4.7-inch displayed iPhone this fall and an even bigger 5.5 inch model. We’ve been seeing 12-inch iPads surfacing the web recently (for fun)! But all joking aside, it is clear that displays are only going to get bigger. Developers will then need to update their apps to fit the new screen, and Apple has provided a way for them to do just that today. A screenshot of the new Xcode beta was seen on Cult of Mac.

To allow developers to test the way their apps work before compiling, there is a built in simulator. In the new Xcode, a ‘resizable’ simulator was added by Apple and can be stretched to fit an arbitrary screen resolution. Therefore if developers want to test their apps in bigger iPad or iPhone resolution, they will be able to do so. However, this does not confirm that Apple will be releasing iPhones with bigger displays. It has been said that iPhone stimulators do not accept values greater than 1024 for height and 760 for width.

How can the max size be 1024x760? Both iPhone 5/5s and iPad have larger resolutions.

That is most likely in points, not pixels.

FFS who wants a big iPhone... I personally find the Samsung phone models too big to hold comfortably, if you want a bigger device for watching movies or whatever, get an iPad!

SPOILER ALERT: "The iPhone 6 will have a lighted logo on the back!"
Unsure if it will be used for alerts but remember, you heard it here first!

HA! I had a Boost Mobile phone back in the day that had a logo on the front flip. It illuminated when you missed a chirp or had a message.

I love how this article starts off by saying, "But all joking aside, it is clear that displays are only going to get bigger." and then ends with, "However, this does not confirm that Apple will be releasing iPhones with bigger displays." Ummm ok?

I really don't think Apple is going to start releasing huge displays like the one's Samsung or HTC have out. They look ridiculous!
