  • Amazon Puts Wearable Tech Front and Center

As MMi's Akshay Masand reported Tuesday, Apple’s suppliers have reportedly begun producing the iWatch in small quantities, ahead of a prospective launch during the second half of 2014.

As the wearables market heats up, Amazon is seizing a golden opportunity by striving to become the central location for all of your wearable tech needs.

This week, Amazon officially launches its wearable technology store, an online platform that is the go-to spot for the most in-demand products from Samsung, Jawbone, GoPro, and others in this fast-emerging category.

"Right now, there is major confusion regarding the functionality of each device, and which one you should buy," Colin House, CEO and founder of Sleep Genius, is quoted by the E-Commerce Times. "I think an online store dedicated to wearable tech might reveal what is truly lacking about the space."

House's Sleep Genius was recently integrated into the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch in a move that raised the bar for this product category. The integration with Sleep Genius marks the first time a wearable technology has moved beyond simple tracking to actually begin treating a serious problem facing an estimated 1 in 4 adults today - chronic sleep deprivation.

All told, Amazon's shrewd move comes at a time when projections for wearable technology's growth are accelerating dramatically. According to a recent report from VisionGain, the wearable technology market will grow explosively in the next five years.

"There remain many untapped market niches that these leading vendors are poised to exploit," the company says. "As the market moves into a growth phase, so too will the relationships between these vendors, with competition becoming more vociferous and strategic alliances and partnerships leading to significant balance-of-power disruptions in the market.”

How is a smart wearable going to cure insomnia?? As there are many causes of sleep deprivation including some serious medical conditions, this is just ********.
