  • Google Acquired Bump and Flock to Shut Down at the End of the Month

The popular file sharing app, Bump, which was acquired by Google in September of 2013 is set to shut down in the next few weeks. Bump CEO and cofounder, David Lieb, recently made the announcement regarding the shutdown. He explained that though the company intended to continue its work on Bump and Flock, they “are now deeply focused on our new projects within Google.” As a result, they no longer have time to dedicate to the two apps and their backend services.

On January 31, 2014 both file sharing tool Bump and photo sharing tool Flock will be pulled from the iOS App Store. After this date, neither app will work and all the user data will be deleted from the company’s servers. To make the transition easier for customers, Bump is providing a data export tool from within the app. Users who open the app between now and the end of the month will end up receiving an email containing a link allowing them to download all their data.

Are any of you affected? If so, what app/service will you be switching to?

I wonder what FanDroids will make of this. They always complain Apple takes down services they acquire while their god google kindly keeps them going. I guess they'll just pretend it doesn't exist as they do with any negative thing Google does ( you know, like promoting sale of illegal drugs)

It's because of some new thing they are going to do in kitkat which mimics NFC, Like NFC for all devices.

I'm still posses they shut down SimplifyMedia. That app was awesome and they only included the worst components into Google music. Such a shame.

Really Google? I'm sorry, but you have a million other employees you can use to work on projects. Bump and Flock are by no means high maintenance projects, so you have no excuse for not continuing to offer them.

Read what I posted above! It's actually a good move as people who can't afford high end phones will be able to have NFC like capabilities which will work across many brands while us iOS users can only send to other iOS devices.
