  • Apple Releases Mavericks Server Update to Fix VPN Connection Issue

Apple recently released a software update for OS X 10.9 Mavericks Server that fixes an issue which prevented some clients from communicating with VPN services through L2TP connections. Prior to the update’s release, several users complained of issues connecting with mavericks Server’s VPN service via L2TP. According to an Apple support document, the problem occurred when the client and server are behind different NAT gateways.

The recent VPN update requires the latest OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 version and Server 3.0.1 to operate. Apple notes that the update will only stall itself on a machine that has already launched the server app and used it to set up appropriate services.

The VPN Update for Mavericks Server comes in at 1.6 MB and can be downloaded via Software Update or through Apple’s Support Downloads webpage (hit the source link below).

Seriously? Who still uses L2TP? Considering the number of places that block anything that doesn't look like 'generic IP traffic' and that you need to run IPSEC over the top if you want something secure... While the hell would you bother with that when SSL-based VPNs are so much simpler, lighter on the overhead and pass through firewalls like a hot Samari blade through butter?
