  • iPhone 5S Deliveries Delayed Until October in Several Countries

    And so it begins.

Fueled by strong demand and limited supply, iPhone 5S deliveries won't take place until October for some buyers in Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

With the midnight hour already history in these localities, the iPhone 5S has now officially become available for purchase. And according to published reports out of these markets, orders were almost instantly met with notifications that deliveries may not occur until early October.

Unlike the iPhone 5C, which now shows shipping lead times of no more than three days in Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore, Apple's iPhone 5S isn't as readily available. And lead times of 7 to 10 business days are expected to persist in these markets for the foreseeable future.

With the iPhone 5S scheduled to launch in the U.S. and elsewhere around the world tomorrow morning, some industry watchers expect similar - if not worse - shipping delays. Although a recent wave of data and consumer surveys indicate that consumer demand for the iPhone 5S may be of blockbuster proportions once again, it doesn't appear that rumors of constrained supplies are exaggerated.

As MMi previously reported this week, getting your hands on the new flagship iPhone may be a substantially bigger challenge than anything you've experienced in the past.

And just wait until the folks used to pre-ordering realize they have to activate their phones "in store". Can't walk out with a box this this time. Some want to "Resell".. But you'll still have to order online from Apple to get an unopened box. This started with the 5. So folks who pre-ordered ip5.. haven't experienced required in-store activation since 3GS.

NOPE. I walked into my local verizon store last year and got my 5. I specifically told the clerk not to open the phone, and she left it in the box with the plastic on it for me. I went home and opened it myself. No issues doing that.

Best buy is going to open at 8a tomorrow. You better call and verify!

      Crap...
Looks like I might not even get the 5S tomorrow. My work changed times and now I 'HAVE' to be there at 8a...

      I guess I'll be waking up at 2a 😒

This isn't true for the 5.....

I've sold many of them and never had to activate them before the customer walked out the door. As long as the customer has an active wifi connection or iTunes on a PC/Mac with and active internet connection they can activate it on their own....

Just call Apples Store, AT&T store, Verizon or Best Buy - they'll all tell you the same thing. Activation 'in store' - required. You'll see..

Maybe 3-5 months after initial release they relax this.. But not on launch day and in the first few weeks. 5S will all be in-store only.

12:01 Pacific Time. Apple and all carriers will be taking online orders (except T-Mo @ 8a). I don't 'think' Best Buy, Walmart, Target or Radio Shack will take online orders but it won't hurt to check

I have a couple friends that are going to an AT&T in a rural city. I added one of them as an authorized user and he's gonna try and get me the gold 64GB. If that fails, I guess I'll be on a long, online waiting list

A verizon manager confirmed with me they are "supposed to" open the box and activate the phone for the customer. It is a liability otherwise. So if you got a not so smart rep at the time, you may have slipped out of the store without opening the phone. It is still a fairly new policy.

      I work for AT&T....

And was working on launch day for the 5......

They can walk out the door, with the phone in the box and activate at home with NO issues. It's not recommended because of Apple strict warranty rules once the phone leaves the store though.
