The iPad is jailbroken.
You can now jailbreak your iPad using comex's Spirit tool. This guide will show you how… to press the ONE button in Spirit. 
First off, download Spirit. OS X users can download it from SpiritJB.com, ModMyi.com, Rapidshare, Megaupload or the MediaFire.com miror.
Windows users download it from SpiritJB.com, ModMyi.com, Rapidshare, or Megaupload.
Unarchive your download.
Make sure your iPad is on, in normal mode, and connected to the computer via your USB cable. Open Spirit – it will see your device and show it's ready (Spirit works on any activated/hacktivated iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch on firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2).
Press… you guessed it, Jailbreak. For about 30 seconds you'll see Spirit tell you it's jailbreaking.
Your iPad will show a "Restore Complete" screen (don't worry, it's not deleting any of your info/content), and Spirit will show Jailbreak Complete!
WINDOWS FOLKS: If you're getting error code c0000005, apparently setting compatibility mode to Windows 98 allows Spirit to work.
The iPad will restart, and for a minute or two you will see the lovely art made by OPK while Spirit is extracting the bootstrap package and finishing its work.
Boom – that's it. Your iPad will then start back up, and you'll see Cydia installed.
I strongly suggest if you have not already backed up your SHSH blobs, you open Cydia and press the Make my life easier, thanks! button to have saurik's server back them up for you. This ensures you can always restore to the 3.2 firmware, regardless of whether Apple attempts to restrict that later.
Congratulations! You're now the proud owner of a jailbroken iPad.
Spirit isnt working for me. it keeps saying error c0000005

RKirk, try running in Windows 98 compatability mode, it worked for me on Windows 7 and Vista both!!
It works just fine. In my experience its important to quit itunes and use activity monitor to quit iTunes helper before you run spirit Jailbreak.

Jimmy's tips:
Be- careful not to install to much stuff form cydia. it will f-up your iPad as cydia needs a ipad safe section.
Also use cydia to save Ecid shsh if you have not done the fw umbrella.

GUYS CHANGE THE COMPATIBILITY TO WINDOWS 98 AND THEN RUN THE SOFTWARE, it didnt work for me but then i changed the compatibility mode to windows 98 and it works

OS effected are windows 7 and vista
1. Start task manager
2. Quit iTuneshelper.exe
3. extract spirit.exe to desktop
4. right click and goto compatibility tab
5. Check run this program compatibility mode for:
6. select windows 98/me and click apply then ok
7. right click spirit.exe and run as administrator
all done enjoy your jailbreak!!
(note: if you have bitdefender or similar firewall/antivirus like me you might have to allow spirit to use a UDP port… best shot is to shut it off for 5 minutes.)
yess… proven with windows 7.. have to change compatibility mode to windows 98 and do not check "run as admin"…. worked just fine… also as a precaution, quit itunes…….

It all sounds too easy to be true!! Do I not need to back up my SHSH blobs on either of my jailbroken iPhone (3.1.2 + 04.26.08 Baseband) or iPad WiFi 3.2 (unjailbroken) prior to using Spirit?

Hi to those stuck on the apple logo (I am running XPSP3 so this won't apply to vista or 7 necessarily). When I first ran Spirit I had iTunes closed. It ran, the splash screen came up just fine, all looked well and then I was stuck on a spinning wheel. After about 3 minutes I restarted and then was stuck on the apple. After about 5 minutes of that I reran Spirit. It acted as if it had jailbroken, but no splash screen, no spinning wheel, still the apple. I opened iTunes, it saw the iPad but the device was still on the apple. I did the power/home until the screen went black and then released. The apple popped up briefly, then the JB splash screen re-ran. A few seconds later I was on my lockscreen and went right in. Cydia was there and I appear to be fine. Hope that helps anyone out there stuck on the apple!

hmmm…I'll try again. Stuck apple on iPad under WinXPSP3. Ran Spirit with iTunes closed, all looked good then stuck on spinning wheel for about 2 minutes, did power/home until apple appeared, there I stayed for about 5 minutes. Re-Ran Spirit, iTunes still closed. Spririt interface on Win machine looked fine, but no pretty splash screen, still the apple. Opened iTunes, iPad seen, but still have the apple. Power/home until screen went black, immediate relase on black screen. Apple popped up, splash screen about 2 seconds later, 20 seconds later had lockscreen, went right in & had Cydia. Hope this post makes it and hope it helps someone out there!

When i run spirit on my windows 7 pc, I get a error message that says "dl.exe has stopped working" and then i press the lose program button and it says the jailbreak failed. Suggestions?

First hung up on apple logo. Then put into recovery mode but no itunes connect sceen came on. Just bank. Reconnected and apple logo came on and booted into spirit again but this time it worked. Hope this helps all you hung on apple logo.

Worked fine after following ncnyxx13's steps to change compatibility it worked like a charm on Vista
when i tried the first time ended ituneshelper it made my screen stuck at the spining wheel and i had to restored. the sec time i didnt end the ituneshelper it worked. just puting it out there mabe its just my computer. hope it helps someone

Just a quick thing. How do I backup my SHSH? In cydia in sauriks server? I did not see that screen in beginning.. neither a button.

Wow that really sucked. I first jailbroke using spirit and it went successfully but when it resprung i had not wifi even though it said it was connected. So i tried to restore and heres where the real fun started. I tried to restore on three different machines. Two xp machines and one windows 7 machine and all kept giving me an error 14 message in itunes and i could not restore. Lucky for my my other machine is a OSX86 machine with leopard 10.5.7 installed on a pc. I restored from there no problem and also jailbroke it using sprint. Lucky i had my leopard pc lol.

Ok, I figured out the issue with the itunes problem and I got it to work. But now when I open up Cydia it's Unable to Load (timed out) Is this supposed to happen or did I do something wrong?

For those of you who are having the C0000035a problem, i had this problem earlier on and i just managed to find a fix!.. (or i seemed to get it working through my iphone..). I was getting a Lbdaey32.dll error, and to fix it what i did was i went to the directory this dll was located.. and all i did was cut and paste it to my desktop… (so just remove it from the folder..) and i then ran spirit and it seemed to work! then i put the dll back in the folder and that basically solved my problem i was really desperate for a jb so basically tried everything and anything… (i also ran this through windows98/me AFTER removing the dll, ive tried using every single possible combination BEFORE moving the dll with the compatibilities and nothing seemed to work..) but w.e, i got mine working!! woo try it out! and let me know if it works or not
Updating sources on Cydia seems to become unresponsive when it has almost finished downloading packages. Only fix is to reboot the iPhone 3GS, any help or fix?

Having all kinds of problems with SBSettings, Winterboard. Screws my screen up, can't move around in Cydia at all, if I can even connect to it. This is turning into a nightmare. I think I wil restore tonight and wait until they have the bugs worked out, I only hope I can DO a restore.

Jailbroke with Spirit and lost all my photos. Also got several warnings from my virus scanner. (I'm the second person now that's spotted the trojan.
Virus or unwanted program 'TR/Dropper.Gen [trojan]'
detected in file 'C:UsersTamayszDesktopSpirit.exe.'
Other than that it worked great, but I suggest everyone do a trojan/virus scan after jailbreak.

Windows XP Pro – I did not need to run compatibility manager.
Works great… for all those that are getting error messages all yah need to do is change compatibility to win98/me.. how to: right click on spirit, scroll down to properties, click on compatibility, then check on the box that says run this program in compatibility mode for: scroll down till you find windows98/ windows me..

Stuck on reboot-Apple logo, device recognized in iTunes as if activated :
It's nearly done : Unplug the iPhone from the computer and hard-reboot. (I did three or four).
iPhone comes back to the (most decorative ever ^^) jailbreak screen and reboots jailbroken after a few seconds !
(The unplug used to work for redsn0w in the "waiting for reboot"-loop, remember !)

I had exactly the same problem (error code : 000035a) on my Vista machine.Even after doing the compatibility trick, the same error kept popping up. Then I tried what you suggested, i.e. going to directory C:Program FilesEmpowering TechnologyeDataSecurityx64 and then cutting the libeay32.dll file and pasting in on my Desktop.Then I ran spirit, it did it´s magic and jailbroke my ipod touch 2G 3.1.3 (MC).Afterwards I placed the libeay32.dll file back in it´s folder.PERFECT. Thanks a million ana3zoz and I hope this helps somebody out just like it helped me.

C:Program FilesEmpowering TechnologyeDataSecurityx64 and then cutting the libeay32.dll file and pasting in on my Desktop

go to your search bar and type this in: libeay32.dll
when search finds the file, right click and select "open containing folder"
right click the file, select cut, then MINIMIZE the window.
right click on your desktop and select "paste"
now run spirit. after spirit completes, close window
now go back to the libeay32.dll file, right click and select "cut"
maximize the window you got this file from, right click in it and select "paste"
Close window. Done!
If the compatibility mode method is giving you the c000035 error, try this method. It worked for me after trying every compatibility mode in the drop down box.

FAILED. Forced to lose all data and restore firmware.
3G 3.1.3 NOT 3GS, 10.5.8 , closed copy of itunes 9.02 (author claimed 9.x to 9.1.1 was safe), proper 3.1.3 firmware sitting next to app, and also installed by apple previously.
with itunes closed, at end of jailbreak the spinning wheel on the colorful screen spun for 7 minutes before i gave up and force shut it off after tugging it off cable. That ruined it. it could never boot. I restored it back to 3.1.2
5 other people above had stuck at apple screen. I will retry with 10.6.3 and recent itunes.
WORKED THE SECOND TIME for 3g 3.1.3 ! Not stuck on apple logo this time, also finished without spinning pinwheel hang.
Instead of a closed copy of iTunes 9.02, I had a open copy of 9.1.1
Instead of 10.5.8 i used OSX 10.6.3
firmware file next to app in small folder, may 3 not may 2 version of Spirit used
I am so happy. The app should complain if it does not know if iTunes is open and running, or at least warn user in a reminder to open iTunes 9.1.1 first before starting.
Worked great for me on the first try. I'm using windows vista so I went ahead and ran Spirit in windows 98 comp. mode and everything went smoothly.
Anybody attempting this for the first time: If you'll just read through the instructions instead of rushing you should be able to complete this simple task on your first try.

im getting the same problem as asking me for itunes in win 7 boot camp right clicked set up to 98 comptable i see no one had talked about 32 bit 64 bit im running 64bit on a boot camp had to run the side of things but im still in jail even all through iv got cydia im using iphone browser & explora there both reporting im still in Jail

Ooops did jailbreak, was on 3.1.2 jailbreak blackra1n downloaded spirit and hit jailbreak now my phone keeps reloading every few minutes with the pineapple logo on. tried reset and nothing works. Help!
