I just updated Winterboard on Cydia today. It now has the option to optimize .png files. It states that once done they can no longer be viewed by a computer in the normal fashion. Futrher that to return to the original .png files you will need to reinstall that theme. This will not work for an in progress theme that I optimized by mistake when I meant to scroll the page and instead selected optimze.
Does anyone know of a way to "de-optimize" a.png image for PC users?
I could only find atPeek an App store app that works for Mac users with Snowleopard.
Did your theme quit displaying correctly? I am using the VX5 theme and all the displayed icons including thespringjumps and folders changed to the original style. Tried reinstalling with no luck. Tried the conversion utility refed in this thread and I must not be smart enough to use it. Added icons to the bucket, ran it and sshed the result to my theme icons folder. Still stuck at this point. Am I on the right track? John

no proplems with the display, optimze just pre-converts the files to Apples format to save time when displayed. You might have turned summerboard mode off in the winterboard settings. It should be on for you, I imagine.
You were dead on. Summerboard was turned off. Now all I have to do is reload my correct icon set and things will be back to normal. Thanks a lot!! John
It works on my pc with windows 7. Put the .png file in the png folder, run iPhoneFixPng.exe, the "de-optimized" .png image will be in the "fixed" folder.
optimizing your pngs for a specific theme sounds dangerous. If this process replaces the pngs that came with your theme, how does your theme know which images to use after the fact?
Just optimized and everything looks great.
seems a little faster too

I find the easiest way to browse the iphone file system and also de-optimize PNG files copied from the iphone to the computer is Total Commander (Total Commander - home) using the t-pot plug-in (t-pot - Project Hosting on Google Code). It de-optimizes the files before copying them to the computer.
Total commander is a great file system access utility, works with the USB cable and even works when the phone is locked!
