Go into your theme folder MyTheme/Bundles/com.apple.springboard, delete FST_BG.png and respring.

My wallpaper is black with purple cloud effect.
no white to be had that's the confusing part.
my status bar is transparent in everything except the photos section.

Just make a 5x20 transparent image named FST_BG.png and place it at library/themes/yourtheme/bundles/com.apple.springboard

Tried that and did not work.
i am using the clear status bar winterboard theme and everywhere else the status bar is transparent except in the photos area. i just dont get it. i am sure its a number of things that are conflicting that are causing this issue. Oh well.
    thanks guys

Did you put the theme with it on top of winterboard? And, did you see if the themes you have checked on winterboard are using an info.plist with StatusBarMode or StatusBarContentsMode?

I verified that the winterboard theme (illumine) is on top and none of the other items are using info.plist and the illumine theme contained a transparent FST_BG.PGN file in the com.apple.springboard folder. The themes that are using info.plist do not have StatusBar reference anywhere in them. I have since moved illumine back down to the bottom of my list. Here is what i have checked in WinterboarD:

    Checked in this order

    clear status bar
    the best clear lock screen
    percentage battery
    transparent dock
    user wallpaper
    iceSMS
    illumine

Oh lol, sorry. I checked your ss again and then checked my ipod just to see that, if you don't use an info.plist, transparent images will look white like in your ss.

Take a look at what happens if you use only transparent images:

would you happen to know where i would put the info.plist and what code should go inside of it?

But there's a bad side. If you use an info.plist for that, everytime you close an app your statusbar will dissappear, you won't be able to open SBSettings, being forced to lock and unlock again to get back to normal state and sometimes even force respring with winterboard or other app. I advise you to keep things like they are now just theming the FST_BG to your liking (only transparent won't be possible). I can try to help you with that.
