Does Winterboard Make the iPhone Slower?

I've been using winter board for the past month with great joy. Today I saw someone using her unjailbroken iphone in lecture, and it seemed really quick and responsive.

Does winterboard make the iphone slower and/or use battery faster than the factory theme?

I would say try it out, disable everything in Winterboard.
Then you can see for yourself.
I noticed that animated wallpaper or lockscreen does slow down significantly.

Different themes and features (animated/changing/video backgrounds for example) definitely have different impacts.

I've gotten kind of down to a bare bones winterboard theme as a trade off. One of the biggest things that affect speed for me currently, is a custom keyboard. Changing it to the stock keyboard seems to take off loading time on themes that need the keyboard. The dialer keyboard doesn't seem to affect the phone.app at all.

Personally, I can handle 2-3 second load times on changing between apps. Longer than that really seems like it's holding me up on getting things done.

Since I uninstalled Winterboard, my iPhone has been much more responsive. Just my two cents.

I think it makes sense that WinterBoard slows things down. It is an extra layer in your springboard. Question is: what do you want to give up? Personally, even though sometimes my machine is irritatingly slow, I like to mod it, to make it my own. I pay the price. I am aware of it. It would be nice to have a WinterBoard that affects performance in an unnoticeable way, but until then...

I removed winterboard and my phone is noticeably quicker. My winterboard day are over.

When I whip out my phone, I’d like it to do what I want as fast as possible. Winterboard is great, but the speed is Too much of a sacrifice. And for what--aesthetics? What are we, Mac users??

I'm with officespace here. Having custom icons and backgrounds on my home screen is nowhere near as important to me as having snappy performance and crash-free apps. I'll choose function over appearance 99% of the time. It's a personal preference, though.

ok, so far I restored and didn't install winterboard and it's kinda better although I do miss my stickers theme! I think it's all the extra things that slownit down like splash screen for individual app, sounds and such, I would like to just change the icons permanantly

I avoid splash screens for apps like the plague. Silly, imho.

And, FWIW, I rarely have app crashes. Just the 'laggy' issue.

Is it really worth changing the icons forever?
Saving all the original icons would help me too, good idea or not?
I also love my background, everything else I can live without EASILY, except for **** *** icons lol.
Any way to keep the Wallpaper as a wallpaper through simple SSH using WinSCP?
Like change some file which holds the dock image and the plain black wallpaper?
Should I just play around with everything and add a Wallpaper.png to every single file in WinSCP?
Or would that be totally naive for me to do?

I use WinSCP to change certain images, such as my weather app images and SMS balloon colors. I just refuse to reinstall Winterboard.

Oh this I would LOVE! It is my main reason to keep installer,
I love having a custom wp behind the icons.

But yes, I've felt my phone somewhat slower since I restored, upgraded to 2.1 and quickpwn

To answer your question, yes WinterBoard seems to multiply loading times. I only use WinterBoard for theme testing and the SB BG. When I want to change an icon or something, I do it with WinterBoard. If I like it, I finalize it by replacing the image via SSH. That way I don't experience any lag, and I still have my theme.

i love winterboard... the half second lag in apps is unnoticeable compared to the fact that winterboard makes changing the appearance of ur iphone soo easy

I agree, Also manually changing every icon rather than use winterboard would be too much trouble.
