i hope Saurik will come up with a correction. As this is killing the speed of iphone even after leaving just 1 theme after some time the phone become slow. Without winterboard it is fast as hell. So it is definaltely Winterboard.

Unfortunately yes, but it won't be as bad as having lots of themes going on.

FWIW....I've gotten down to 4 items in WB (originally over 19, if you include the default install directories/themes). This also is the number of directories I have (4). I've got Aqwoah, Clock Widget, Weather Widget, and a theme I created combining a whole bunch of little themes just changing one icon/area at a time (like a theme that just changes the signal bars). My combined themes folder is a combination of 7 other WB themes.

IMO, this helped the lag in my situation, as I believe each extra themed folder adds to the delay, cause WB is probably nested in it's search for folders that are turned on, which relates to items checked for the items/areas for WB to 'retheme'. So, WB for me only has to check 4 folders, but it's theme'ing over 11 areas of the phone. If that makes sense.

One thing that also seems to affect lag in general is what you have been doing 'recently' on the iPhone as you switch applications (IOW, memory usage currently allocated). For example, I listen to music a lot while browsing to fall asleep at night. If I then open 'Settings' it will really take a long time. But, if I open Settings right after a reboot, 2-3 seconds. This is irrelevant of WB.

Just a couple of educated guesses/observations. YMMV.

How fast your phone is directly related to use, applications installed, applications running in background, etc.

Here is the big boss link, as mentioned above.

I eventaully got tired of the lag on my apps so removed winterboard, after searching around I managed to replace all my light modifications manually. Using applications like logome, makeitmine and by using iphonebrowser to replace some files on my phone I now have the same level of customization I had with winterboard and none of the lag. Its easy to find guides and the information you need to do most mods manually. I've come the the conclusion that winterboard is a great application (thanks saurik) but its for people who want an easy quick fix without doing any of the research to learn how it can be done manually and its not that hard to do.

Winterboard loads the files required into a whole seperate directory tree and uses hooks to call these files instead of the stock files and this is what slows down and takes resourse overheads from the iphone. Saurik did a very good job of making sure the onverhads were as light as possible and the lag as minimal as possible and also that you can restore easily by deleting the unwanted files and switch between files. But if your happy to replace the stock files and a fairly certain you want to keep a certain look then my advise is do it manually. its faily low risk if you only replace .png and .caf files which allow you to change battery theme backgrounds and sounds etc and you can always use iphonebrowsers backup facility if you need to restore files.

    Good luck

Thanks ericidle - This was a good read. Could you refer to any guides on where sound files/background/icon files are located please?
