How do you change system strings with WinterBoard?
WinterBoard promises to be a one-tool for all moddings. That's cool. But I haven't figured out how to change 'system strings' (the text that appears with the sliders when you power off, answer a phone call, unlock your lock screen, etc) with WinterBoard. Anybody knows?

Customize app will allow you do this. It's available on Cydia. Pretty much customize is good for for now...

Copy /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj/SpringBoard.strings to YourTheme.theme/Bundles/com.apple.springboard/en.lproj/SpringBoard.strings and modify. I just left it in the existing plist format and it worked fine.

FYI: You can change system strings using Customize, then delete Customize and still have your system strings saying what you've programmed them to say.

Well, strictly speaking this is not a WinterBoard mod, but I still thank you a lot, it's a great tip, I used it and it works fine, of course, and I finally got rid of Customize, I uninstalled it altogether, I kept it so far only for modding system strings, but now there is no reason to keep it anymore.

this isn't working for me, for some reason omnioutliner open this and i can easily find the labels but when i edit them it creates a new format and when i transfer it into the en.lproj folder it messes the labels up and just says AWAY_LOCK_LABEL or doesnt work at all... when i edit with textedit, it jus doesn't work

d.Rod,
Check the way you save the filename. Check also permissions. If you keep the filename as it is, and file format and permissions have nothing wrong, it should work

here is what i have learned so far, from Transformers theme on Cydia
Transformers XTN\Bundles\com.apple.springboard\en.lproj\SpringB oard.strings
open it with "WordPad'' only and these are the 3 I know of so far, feel free to share what can I add to it?
"AWAY_LOCK_LABEL" = "Transform";
"POWER_DOWN_LOCK_LABEL" = "Swipe Me Off";
"SLIDE_TO_ANSWER" = "Thug Life";

customize just starts then ends for me, have changed permissions , etc.
would like to change systems strings without messing with other theme parts.I don't drink kool-Aid, I don't join cults.
This is why I break out in cold sweat going to Apple retail store.

same problem here, only my problem is, i had customize before, edited some system strings, then deleted customize. The strings stayed and i had no problem with that but now I want them gone and I install customize and it just starts then quits, really need to know how to fix this.

Editing system strings.....so simple
PLIST Edit Pro is simple and free on a Mac!
-Just edit each string you want edited then save the PLIST and put it on the iPhone using what ever FTP you use IE transmit.
