Iphone 3gs stuck in error 1
Hey guys, trying to restore my sisters 3gs and I keep getting error1. I've tried just hitting the restore button on itunes and when that didn't work I downloaded the firmware in the download section and tried to restore it manually hitting shift and the restore button. I still keep getting that same error 1 after the progress bar hits about 75%.
Any tips or tricks?
Thanks in advance

Error 1 normally means you have a hardware issue with the device. Try using a different computer, if that still doesn't work, your device will need service.

"Service" its a 3gs, I guess she might have to upgrade. This is the second computer used. However I'll give it a shot one more time on the other one.
Thanks for the quick response
Much appreciated

assuming you are trying to restore to 5.1.1, use redsn0w to create a custom NO_BB firmware by pointing it to the stock firmware you downloaded.
then check your hosts file located:
C drive -> Windows -> System32 -> drivers -> etc, make sure the hosts file does not contain the entry 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com, if it does, delete it and make sure to save the file
then enter PWNED DFU mode using redsn0w and do the shift + restore to the custom NO_BB firmware.
you should be ok......hopefully

Now I'm getting the "There is no SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate" any fix for this?

you are getting it because you are using an official sim card, you need to use an official sim first, like an att sim to activate it, then you can unlock it
create a custom firmware using sn0wbreeze and when it asks you if you want to "Activate" your iphone during the custom firmware build, click Yes
then you would need to restore via PWNED DFU mode to that custom firmware, which will bypass activation.
however, be WARNED that you will most likely loose GPS and push notifications
